Advanced graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and young researchers from the Americas are invited to apply to attend the Pan American Advanced Studies Institute (PASI) on Emerging Trends in Process Systems Engineering, which is funded by the National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy. The workshop will take place at the Hotel Costa Galana, Mar del Plata, Argentina, on August 12-21, 2008, and will consist of lectures and seminars in the areas of Advanced Modeling Tools, Biosystems Engineering, Multi-scale Design of New Materials, Design and Analysis of Complex Engineering Systems, Design of Chemical Processes for Sustainability, New Energy Systems and Enterprise-wide Optimization (detailed program). The time allocated for lectures will include exercises, and demonstration of computer tools. Participants will be encouraged to bring a laptop computer so they can download the lecture slides and more easily connect to the internet and participate in the exercises. Also, those students wishing to obtain credits for attending the workshop will be asked to take an exam after the workshop. These exams will be sent by email to provide flexibility to students for their timing.

The Pan American Advanced Studies Institute will provide, depending on the availability of funds, full or partial financial support to eligible students from the Americas to cover transportation and/or accommodation (double occupancy) and meals. There will be a fee of $150 upon acceptance to the workshop. The aim in the selection of participants is for broad representation of U.S., Canada and Latin American institutions. There will be a limit of 50 students, with about 50% coming from the U.S.

The application deadline was March 14, 2008.
No more applications are being accepted.
